Waterless Trims for Zara
Challenge
Tex Fasteners identified that the traditional dyeing process for zipper trims was highly water-intensive. Recognizing Zara’s strong commitment to sustainability, Tex set out to develop an innovative solution to significantly reduce water consumption in zipper manufacturing.
Solution
Tex Fasteners collaborated closely with Zara’s design and production teams in Spain and Bangladesh to develop “waterless trims”, utilizing pigment-based coloring technology instead of conventional water-based dyes. A key step in this innovation was the standardization of the color “True Black”, ensuring consistency, durability, and aesthetic appeal that met Zara’s high-quality standards.
Implementation
- Rigorous Testing: Conducted extensive quality assurance to ensure color consistency and durability.
- Collaborative Approach: Worked closely with Zara to seamlessly integrate the new pigment-based process into existing production lines.
Impact
The introduction of waterless zippers resulted in significant environmental benefits:
- Water Savings: Eliminated approximately 8 liters of water per 100 zippers, reducing the environmental footprint.
- Sustainability Alignment: Strengthened Zara’s commitment to sustainable sourcing and responsible manufacturing.
Results
This initiative showcased Tex Fasteners’ leadership in sustainable innovation, providing Zara with an environmentally responsible solution and enhancing their sustainability credentials.
